Hartford Insurance Executive Named as Recipient
of Communication and Leadership Award
John Madigan, Vice President of Corporate Staffing at The Hartford has been selected as one of approximately 80 outstanding leaders throughout the world to receive the Toastmasters International Communication and Leadership award this year.
The C&L Award is presented to a non-Toastmaster who has demonstrated outstanding communication and leadership skills in the District 53 community as defined by over 120 Toastmaster Clubs in Connecticut, Western Massachusetts, and Eastern New York. John Madigan will receive his award at the Toastmasters District 53 Spring Conference on May 13, 2006 at the Mountainside Resort in Wallingford, CT.
Toastmasters District 53 Governor Paul Young cited John for his strong commitment to The Hartford’s employee development in the communications and leadership areas and his outstanding service to his community and family.
John is the Executive Sponsor for 13 Toastmasters clubs in various offices of The Hartford across the country. Under John's watchful eye Toastmasters clubs at The Hartford have grown from 3 to the current 13 clubs, with two more in the works. Beyond the club, John has sponsored the use of facilities at The Hartford for many area and division events such as contests and officer training. He recognizes the value of the Toastmasters educational program to The Hartford employees and is always willing to support special activities like these. He also supports the use of various mechanisms to get the word out about the Toastmasters opportunity to company employees. For example, John is currently working with Hartford’s Corporate Education department to get Toastmasters listed in its educational program for easier access and better visibility with employees. And he recently participated as a panelist during our Toastmasters marketing presentation to the company's Black Insurance Professionals Networking group. John is very involved in the Hartford community that he grew up in; he is currently President of the Board of Trustees for the Montessori School of Greater Hartford, and a member of the Board of the Urban League of Greater Hartford. John and his wonderful wife, to whom he’s been married for over 23 years, have two great children: a son who is 9 and a daughter who is 7, both are Korean infant adoptees.
District 53 is composed of 122 clubs and approximately 2400 members in Connecticut, Western Massachusetts and Eastern New York. Toastmasters International is a nonprofit educational association that has helped more than four million people through its communication and leadership program. There are more than 211,000 members in 10,500 clubs in 90 countries throughout the world.
A Toastmasters club provides its members with opportunities to improve their public speaking skills, to conduct meetings and to develop as leaders. Club activities are based on the principle of learning by doing and improving through practice and evaluation. |
