Who Should Attend:

Everybody! There is a wide range of excellent training courses provided this year.

For the Club Officers, we provide the essential training courses to help you understand the full responsibilities of your role and to get you started with effective methods and strategies.

For the new member, we offer courses that will put the entire Toastmasters program into perspective and allow you to get more out of the Toastmasters program.

For the veteran Toastmaster, we offer several advanced electives (the TM 600 series) to extend your knowledge of public speaking and effective leadership.

What you should bring: All Toastmasters should bring the Basic Communication & Leadership Manual. Club Officers should bring the manual of their club office.

Don't Wait in Lines! Preregistration is Highly Recommended. Space is limited. Preference is given to those who register early. We must make a commitment for food, ONE Week in advance. If you are late with your Registration you may not get all the benefits.

Registration and Course Selection:

Complete the Registration Form and CIRCLE the CLASS SECTION at the time lot you want. To help us balance the number of students in each class it is suggested that you select the class period designated for your Division, e.g. A/B/E/F designates Divisions A, B, E and F and C/D designates Divisions C and D.

The Tuition is $15.00 for all attending and is non-refundable. Tuition includes all courses and open forums, course materials, and bag lunch (only if you pre-register). Make checks, payable to "District 53 Toastmasters."

NOTICE: Due to significant price increases by the catering service at Rensselaer, there will be no continental breakfast or coffee served this year.

TM 001- The New Toastmaster
This session will combine the membership opportunities for both the new Toastmaster and the veteran. The Toastmaster’s Program is
introduced to the member explaining in detail the Communications and Leadership Manual, speech preparation and evaluation, the importance of a mentor and the many roles of a Toastmaster member. (Open to all)
TM 318 - The Presiding Officer
This course explains how to set the agenda of a proper business meeting. The roles of the presiding officer, the secretary, and the various standing committee chairmen/women are explained. How to effectively originate "new business" without a long battle with Robert’s
Rules of Order. How to handle special situations and use a parliamentarian. (Presidents, all VPs, Secretary)
TM 002 - Your Toastmasters Membership
The Course will also outline the organization and how it works, as well as the operation of an ideal club. The course will be an opportunity for all Toastmasters to learn about their organization and how they can enhance their membership through the program. (Open to all)

TM 321/331 - Planning & Judging Contests
This course focuses on how to prepare, plan, and execute a Club, Area and Division Speech Contests. This course focuses on the importance of understanding, following and using the current contest rules and judging criteria at the Club, Area and Division levels. Conscientious attendance to the rules will properly prepare your contests winners for competition at the next level. How to

TM 110 - Charting Club Success / Distinguished Club Planning
The course explains the Distinguished Club program, its components and recognition levels. Participants will focus on the Club's goals for the next six months and the entire year. A typical Success Plan of an open club and a company club will be constructed. Emphasis will be placed on measurable goals, strategies and resources required to achieve the goals of the coming year. TM 322 - Leading to Succeed
This session will combine the concepts of Success/Leadership Series and how it can improve the club environment, the new Leadership Excellence Series, and how to enhance your leadership skills through the Toastmaster’s program. This course is designed to instill leadership and encourage leaders. (Open to All Toastmasters)
TM 121 - Club Educational Programming
The Course focuses on educational programming and preparation of the Club Speaking schedule with all the required program assignments.

TM 401 – Successful Club / Better Speakers Series
This course focuses on the importance of understanding, following and using the modules in the Successful Club Series to strengthen your Club with proven Toastmasters principles and practices. The Better Speakers Series provides the tools to build and refresh your members’ basic speaking skills. In addition, you will learn how to build
Competent Leaders and Advanced Toastmasters Silver. (Open to all Toastmasters)
TM 123 - Special Club Events.
This course explains how to use special club events for effective and diverse educational programming. How to plan special events, allocate the required resources, and stimulate the club membership. How to increase member participation by providing leadership and speaking opportunities. (VP-Education, Bulletin Editor, Sgt. At Arms)
TM 403 – Club Demo / Sponsor / Mentor
New Clubs provide more people with the opportunity to participate in the Toastmasters Communication and Leadership program. This in turn helps your community or company become a better place. The time and effort that you expend in building a new Club helps you directly. You will have the opportunity to use the communication and leadership skills that you have acquired through participation in Toastmasters. You will be recognized as a person who gets things done. You will have the opportunity to make new contacts which could open the door to career advancement. As the Sponsor or Mentor of a new Club, you will also be eligible for Advanced Leader Club building credit. (Open to all Toastmasters)
TM 132 - Public Relations
The course teaches effective methods for putting the name of Toastmasters International before the public eye (and ears), to increase club membership. How to prepare a press release. How to get on the radio. How to use the public relations resources available through TI. (VP-Public Relations)
TM 601 - Building a Club Web Site
The course focuses on the attributes of an effective Club web site. Topics to be explained, discussed and demonstrated include how to
build web pages and establish a free web site on Geocities (Open to all Toastmasters)
TM 134 - Membership Building
The course focuses on programs and methods to increase the club membership. How to maintain an active membership of at least twenty members. How to attract new members into the club and how to keep a
member active and "onboard" longer than just six months! (VP Membership)
TM 602 - Evaluating the Speaker
The course focuses on the attributes of an effective evaluation. Topics to be explained and discussed include: how to prepare for an evaluation; listening and observing; giving the 2 - 3 minute evaluation. (Open to all Toastmasters)
TM 145 - Record Keeping
The course explains the duties of the Club Secretary and Treasurer, specifically the recording of financial, business, and historical records. How to prepare the business minutes and maintain the active club membership list. How to administer and track funds, e.g. collect dues, pay bills. How to process a new member application. (Treasurer, Secretary)
TM 604 / 605 - Speechcraft and Youth Leadership Programs
This course has been combined to offer the individual member the benefits of utilizing these programs within their clubs as a community service, and as a membership building tool. The Speechcraft Program
explains how to coordinate a program, how to use it as a training program within the club, and as a membership building resource. The
Youth Leadership Program explains the Program (YLP) and how it can be utilized as a community service by the member/club. (Open to all Toastmasters)
TM 161 - The Club Meeting Environment
The course explains how the Sergeant At Arms sets up the proper meeting environment and provides for the reception of guests and
members. (Sgt. At Arms)
TM 606 - "Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Club Administration … But were Afraid to Ask" (Required for all)
This session is designed for general session, presented by the Sr. Team of the District. It will overview areas of concern and methods of
improvement for club success. Each segment of the 50-minute workshop will enable the member to understand the importance of
Proxies, the Area Governor’s Visit, Election of Officers, Officer Training, and the use of the Toastmaster’s International and District 53 Website for more effective club operation. This will also be an opportunity for the District Leadership Team to introduce the theme of the year. (General Session - All Toastmasters)
TM 607 - Mentoring the Member for Success
This workshop is designed to illustrate the benefits of a mentoring program within the club for every member. Toastmaster’s International Mentoring Programs will be explained and the importance of a mentor
to the individual Toastmaster will be outlined. Attendees will learn how to establish a mentoring program that works for their club. (VP Education, Presidents)
OPEN FORUMS FOR CLUB OFFICERS - After taking a number of courses to gain. specific knowledge about your role as a Club Officer, the 3:10 PM Class period is set aside for Open Discussion. Each forum is a Break-Out session where Club Officers can compare notes and clarify issues. The discussion forums are lead by the top District Officers, yet each Club Officer is expected to provide input to the forum discussion agenda.

Two valuable mini skill sessions on effective meetings and the selection of speech and meeting topics are offered at 9 AM, 12:40 PM and 3:10 PM for those not attending required classes.
