Course: TM 318 - The Presiding Officer Course Description: The course explains how to set the agenda of a Club business meeting. The roles of the presiding officer, secretary, and the various standing committee chairmen/women are explained. How to effectively originate "new business" without a long battle with Roberts' Rules of Order. How to handle special situations and motions. How to use a parliamentarian Length: 55 minutes Target Audience: President Vice President Education (VP-E) Administrative Vice President Secretary Treasurer Course Objectives & Goals: At the conclusion of the course: a. the President will be able to construct a business meeting agenda in accordance with the "Order of Business" as suggested by Roberts' Rules; b. the VP-E and VP-M, VP-PR, as standing committee chairmen/women, will recognize the value of the committee report and be able to originate "new business" motions; c. the President and Secretary will understand the difference between "unfinished business," "new business," and a "motion to reconsider;" d. the Secretary will be prepared to read the minutes of a business meeting and the Treasurer will be prepared to give a Treasurer's report; and e. all will be aware of the existence of "The Standard Club Constitution and Bylaws" and will know the impact it has on the operation and proceedings of the Club.
