Course: TM 602 - Evaluating the Speaker Course Description: The course focuses on the attributes of an effective evaluation. Topics to be explained and discussed include: How to prepare for an evaluation; listening and observing; and giving the 2-3 minute evaluation. Length: 55 minutes Target Audience: Open to All Toastmasters Course Objectives & Goals: At the conclusion of the course all participants will: a. understand the relationship between the speaker and the evaluator; b. know the required steps to prepare for an effective evaluation; c. know how to acquire, practice, and refine their listening skills; and d. be able to deliver an effective evaluation. Instructional Format: A Model Speech followed by Group participation and Discussion. Topics Outline: Prepare for the Evaluation Know the Goals of the Speech Read the Objectives as Stated in the Manual Meet with the speaker, if possible, to discuss special items to be evaluated Listen and Observe Giving the Evaluation Re-state the Objectives How did the speaker meet the objectives? How did you react ? Things that worked - and should be repeated in future speeches. Things that didn't work - and should be avoided in future speeches Items that need improvement Advice as to "How" to improve. Do it all in 2 1/2 minutes!
