Maureen Ann Murray, 54 of Manchester, CT passed away at her home on March 8th, 2011. The Manchester Fire Department found a faulty furnace and toxic fumes in her residence. Maureen joined BAC Talkers in East Hartford on October 1st, 2008 and served as the Club President. Friends may pay their respects at the John F. Tierney Funeral Home located at 219 West Center Street in Manchester, CT on Sunday, March 13th from 4 to 7pm. The funeral will be held at 10am on Monday, March 14th at St James Church at 896 Main Street in Manchester, CT. Maureen was proud of being Irish and treasured each day. A devoted daughter to her elderly Mom, she loved spending time playing in her flower garden and researching genealogy. A caring Bank Of America employee, she coordinated many fundraising events at work and was committed to giving back to her community. |
Her passion was helping and she always thought of others before herself. She was involved in Junior Achievement, Animal Rescue Shelter fund raising, Salvation Army Adopt a Family and created numerous raffle baskets.
Maureen had a great sense of humor and was a contestant in the Humorous Speech Contest in 2010. One memorable speech given at Bank of America Talkers was about an Irish brooch. She illustrated to people that clothing and jewelry have nothing to do with who you really are. As she talked, she took off accessories and clothing until she was down to a T-shirt and jeans and said, “This is who I am!” She was known for bringing smiles and laughter to those she worked with by showing up at work in a costume befitting the holiday.
Maureen was very grateful to Toastmasters. In December of 2009, she posted her Success Story on the District 53 website. She had just given a toast at her daughter’s wedding in Hollywood, CA. After the toast, Tory Spelling complimented her on such a touching speech. Maureen freely credited Toastmasters with giving her the skills and confidence to deliver this speech.
Always smiling and giving, she will be missed by all.
