Middlesex Open House Event – Fabulous!
The Middlesex County Toastmasters held an Open House on Thursday, March 24th, featuring special guest Ruby Parker, ATMG, CL, who presented a speech on Holistic Evaluations.
Close to thirty people were in attendance, including several distinguished guests:
Marsha Kiley, ACS, CL. District 53 Immediate Past Governor, Richard Peck, DTM, Lt. Gov. Education & Training, and his wife Bettyann, Cheryl Mason, DTM, Division C Governor, and Louis Nizet, CC, President, Cromwell Community Toastmasters.
Ruby Parker is a member of the WestConn Toastmasters and is serving as Area A4 Governor 2010-11. She presented “The Holistic Approach to Evaluations”, and offered excellent suggestions and a checklist to prepare and present the evaluation speech, and give feedback to the speaker following the meeting.
It was and lively and action packed evening, with the evening’s Toastmaster, Jackie Kirwan, leading a full meeting agenda including Table Topics and two prepared speeches. The speakers represented the Toastmasters spectrum -- Brian Burness presented his Ice Breaker, “A Little Bit About Me”, and Rob Schaff, ACS, ALB, earned another Competent Communicator award with his speech, “Vitamins, Aspirin, and Toastmasters”.
Following the evaluations, Ruby held a mini workshop on evaluating the evaluators, which was the perfect capstone to her earlier presentation. The evening, filled with food, fun, and learning, was enjoyed by members and guests alike.
The Middlesex County Toastmasters’ next special event will be on Thursday, April 28th, when guest speaker, Walter Beveridge, DTM, will be giving his workshop, “How to Write a Speech in 15 Minutes”. Following Walter’s presentation, some speakers will do just that, using the skills taught in the evening’s workshop. The April 28th meeting will be held at Chapman Hall, Middlesex Community College, 100 Training Hill Road, Middletown, CT from 7-9pm.
