District Governor, Nelson Ayala, ATM
presents the 1998 - 1999 District 53 Theme

Nelson Ayala, ATMJoin the Great Adventure in
Leadership and Communication

Fellow Toastmaster Leaders,

With planning we will achieve the Four Critical Success Factors that Toastmasters International has identified are the best indication that we are roviding a quality service to our members. District 53 can become # 1 if we accept the challenges of FAME:

  1. Form New Clubs
  2. Ask New Members to Join our organization
  3. Mentor members to complete their CTM's
  4. Elevate our members to complete their ATM's

To achieve these goals we will work together as a TEAM.

TEAM WORK = Together Everyone Achieves More

I think you will agree that this year new challenges present themselves. This year we have reorganized for new growth into 24 areas. This will provide us with many more opportunities for growth in the coming years. I hope that you will use this manual as a resource for understanding the leadership structure in district 53, which is designed to benefit the individual member, the most important person in the Toastmaster organization. To better serve our members we need to grow the support structure at every
level. In order to make that growth a reality, Let's all "Join the Great Adventure in Leadership and Communication."

  • Remind Clubs to track members' progress using the Program Progress Charts, ensuring members are meeting their goals.
  • Urge new members to present their "Ice Breaker" speech at their first meeting after joining.
  • Encourage Clubs to establish a vibrant mentor program for each new member and for seasoned members, drawing special attention in training to the new "Club Mentor Program Kit" and The Successful Club Series module, "Mentoring."
  • Urge Clubs that meet for one hour to meet weekly to provide maximum opportunities for members to develop and practice speaking and leadership skills.
  • Ensure that Clubs incorporate The Better Speaker Series modules into their meetings to provide additional speech training for members.
  • Remind Clubs to conduct orientation for new and existing members on the benefits of the Toastmasters education program, the "Toastmasters Promise," and Toastmasters opportunities.
