An open letter to all District 53 Toastmasters
from Richard Couture, DTM
District 53 Governor, 2004 - 2005

There are more clubs and new members this year we welcomed five new clubs in District 53, with 116 new members. Additionally, clubs throuout District 53 welcomed 883 first time Toastmasters.

Our theme was "There's MORE!", and many of you have acted upon that theme. When you looked at speech #6 in the Communications and Leadership manual, your said "There's more", and 197 of you received your CTM. When you completed your first Advanced manual you looked to the next manual and said "There's more" and 77 of you received your ATM. There are 71 Competent Leaders, and the four Advanced Leaders in District 53.

Three Toastmasters celebrated the goal of reaching their DTM designation, the highest we can achieve in the educational and leadership program. They are Chris Hollaway, John Lynch, and Will Ryan.

In each of our clubs, we continue to work on our personal and Toastmaster goals. However there are many that found MORE in Toastmasters by becoming Area and Division Governors, and those who stepped up to serve as our Districts' Public Relations Officer, Treasurer, and Secretary. I wish to thank you for your service in helping our clubs, our members and our District.

But Wait… "There's MORE!"

There two individuals we need to thank again, and again. Paul Young, DTM, our LT. Gov. Education and Training, and John Lynch, DTM, our LT. Gov. Marketing. When they were not sleeping, they were thinking, talking, and living Toastmasters. They were looking for MORE that District 53 could do, so our members could realize their goals and our Clubs could be successful. There were thousands of phone calls, miles driven, and hours of service all dedicated to you the members, current and new, of District 53.

This Toastmaster year has come to an end; I realize that our time together has been way too brief. I have enjoyed the time that you have given to me, by electing me to serve as your District Governor. As District 53 has grown, so have I. I have been honored and humbled to serve as your leader in District 53. I am heartened by the warm reception I have received when I visited your clubs or local events. I have new friends in and out of this organization. I also know there is MORE after June 30th, and look forward to serving District 53 as a member of the new team as we "Mind the Gap", for 2005-06 and for many years to come.

May we all continue to look for…
 MORE from Toastmasters
 MORE in Life
 MORE from ourselves.

Rich Couture, DTM
District 53 Governor 2004-05
